21st-century teaching and learning don’t just confine to classrooms. It also extends beyond textbooks and examinations. And towards building research culture and strengthening research minds among teachers and students, Dagapela Middle Secondary School in Dagana opened its Research and Development Centre on Thursday.

Dagapela Middle Secondary School becomes the first school in the country to have a research centre.

According to the principal of the school, Ugyen Penjor, the centre will provide a platform for the teachers in deep learning through research practices.

“Teachers and students can integrate the research findings into real-world classroom teaching and learning. This will also enhance towards data-driven society through the findings of research in decision making in local as well as national level,” he said.

The initiative is in line with the Royal Kasho on education reform and the education ministry’s vision of promoting research culture in the schools.

“It has a competitive advantage over other areas of investment over the changing time. Instituting a strong research culture through the development of research centres and carrying out researches in the schools have become indispensable,” added the Principal.

As a part of the programme, the school also hosted a daylong research seminar to share findings from researches conducted by some teachers in the district.
