A 21-year-old man succumbed to his injuries during treatment at the Gelegphu Central Regional Referral Hospital yesterday, almost a week after he was allegedly assaulted by eight individuals including three females. Gelegphu police brought the unconscious victim to the hospital on the evening of May 24 with a head injury. The victim, a class XII graduate from one of the schools in Gelegphu, was from Serzhong Gewog.

According to police, the victim’s ex-girlfriend and her husband were also involved in the incident. As per reports, the husband of the victim’s ex-girlfriend came across messages from the victim on his wife’s phone. The suspect then blocked the victim’s number and asked another friend of his wife to message the victim for a date. When the victim arrived at the rendezvous near a fishery under Jampelling Demkhong to meet his ex-girlfriend on the evening of May 24, the suspects allegedly assaulted him.

The eight individuals who were allegedly involved in the incident are detained by the police. The suspects are all under 19 years of age. Of them, two are minors- a boy and a girl. The case is under investigation.
