As COVID-19 cases continue to increase in Jomotsangkha Dungkhag under Samdrup Jongkhar, the Eastern COVID-19 Task Force has increased its preparedness and response to manage the situation. According to the Task Force, all three isolation centres in the Drungkhag are now equipped with oxygen cylinders, basic medicines and rapid antigen testing facilities.

The three isolation centres have the capacity to accommodate around 135 patients.

Currently, there are 80 COVID patients in the three centres.

According to a press release by the Prime Minister’s Office, a separate COVID-19 hospital will also be established at the Dungkhag Office immediately.

Three ambulances and medical facilities have all been readied and additional medical and child specialists have been deployed in Jomotshangkha.

The Dungkhag currently has only two specialists.

“We conducted COVID tests on 1,700 individuals and more cases were detected. So for the cases reported from remote gewogs, we have set up an isolation centre at the gewog centres.  Essentials are an important thing. So we have found villagers in the remote areas have rations to last for at least a month. And we have also made all the arrangements to deliver essential items if needed,” said Gonpo Tenzin, a member of the Eastern COVID-19 Task Force.

There are around five thousand people residing in Jomotsangkha. Including the cases from Khashateng chiwog under Merag Gewog, the Dungkhag has reported 152 COVID-19 positive cases in the last 10 days.
