Paro District Court, on Thursday, sentenced six men to prison terms ranging from three months to six months for smuggling, aiding and abetting, and solicitation of sex toys. They can however pay in lieu of the imprisonment.

Three main smugglers aged 41, 47 and 38 were sentenced to six months in prison. They can, however, pay a thrimthue of  Nu 21,875 in ten days from the day the judgment was passed. They have already served five days in the detention.

Similarly, a 33-year-old shopkeeper was sentenced to three months for soliciting ten boxes of sex toys. He can pay Nu 11,000 in lieu of the prison term. He served two days in detention.

A 43-year-old man is also sentenced to three months in prison as he aided and abetted the smugglers by providing transportation with his bolero truck from the road point in Lemdho in Mitshig_Shana under Tsento Gewog.

Meanwhile, a 47-year-old man from Tsento was charged with a double offence, which is Soliciting and Abetting, and Aiding. He has to pay 21,875 in lieu of prison term, equivalent to six months in prison. He already served five days in prison.

They were arrested in November last year with thousands of sex toys and other smuggled goods from China. The seized goods were en-route to India through an illegal route.
