To prevent the spread of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital (JDWNRH) now restricts visitors from visiting the inpatients in the wards. Only an attendant is allowed with the patient.

The COVID-19 cases are increasing across the world and today a new case has been detected in Bhutan.

“Looking at the international scenario, unlike earlier days, we made the rule a little more strict for visitors and attendants. An attendant will be allowed for a patient. Usually, we have visiting hours in the morning, afternoon and in the evening where friends and family come and visit the patient.  Starting today they cannot come because if incase there are patients with coronavirus, it can spread to many other people in the hospital,” said Dr Gosar Pemba, the Medical Superintendent at the JDWNRH.

The hospital urged people not to bring healthy children below 12 years old to the hospital.

“Some people when they visit the patients, they bring children with them. If your children are not sick, bringing children to the hospital is not allowed. Not just in Bhutan, in any other country, if the child is below 12 years old, they are not allowed. Because the children are more prone to infection and disease, they can get the disease easily if they are brought here,” he added.

People bringing in food and necessities for the inpatients will have to handover it to the attendant at the main entrance of the hospital.
