Master Painter Ugyen Lhendup,85, from Monggar is distributing about 4,000 Zhabdrung and Tshephamey kupars to all Rabdeys of 20 districts, free of cost. It is to commemorate the 112th National Day.

He painted the A4 size kupars of Zhabdrung and Tshephamey himself. He spent about Nu 40,000 for the initiative.

“The kupar distribution is dedicated to the longevity and prosperity of His Majesty The King and the Royal Family, Je Khenpo and for the citizens of our country. This is the sole purpose of my distribution,” said Ugyen Lhendup, the master painter.

So far he distributed the copies in all 18 districts, expect Samtse and Haa. But these two districts will receive soon.

“I have distributed Zhabdrung and Tshephemey kupars in the 20 dzongkhags. I have also presented about 100  copies of the kupars to his holiness the Je Khenpo before the national day. I also distributed the kupars in 20 dzongkhags earlier to commemorate the 60th birth anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo,” he added.

Ugyen Lhendup is a recipient of Druk Thuksey (Heart Son of Bhutan) Medal. His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo awarded the medal in 1999. He has been painting since 1952 and this initiative is to pay back for being a successful painter.
