The Thimphu Police intercepted and seized over 19 kilograms of hashish and 600 grams of crystal meth worth over Nu 42 M last week.

On December 2, Thimphu Police received information from the Customs Officer at DHL, a courier service based in Thimphu of having received two suspicious consignments from DHL office, Phuentshogling. Upon the inspection of the consignments, the police found over 19 kilograms of hashish and 600 grams of crystal meth which was on its way to Hong Kong.

Police said the ground for suspicion was that the shipment was worth about Nu 15,000 and it’s being sent with DHL transportation charges of Nu 100,000. As per the DHL shipment bill, the shipment was sent by Mahesh Lama, a Nepalese man in two separate boxes weighing 25 kg and 60 Kg respectively. The drugs were properly packed inside Dabur Chyawanprash containers using plastics and carbon papers.

As per the preliminary investigation, the police found the shipment charge of Nu 100,000 was deposited by two Bhutanese women through mBoB in Phuentshogling. They also found that the same person had sent such consignments to Hong Kong on five different occasions this year. However, the two women reportedly claimed they were only business partners with Mahesh Lama.

Meanwhile, Police are currently tracking Mahesh Lama who is believed to be in Nepal. The case is under investigation.
