Dagana police arrested a 26-year-old man for the alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl on October 12.

The victim is a class V student at one of the schools in Tshangkha Gewog of Dagana. The suspect is a contract teacher of the same school.

The incident took place in a hotel in Tsirang. According to the sources, the suspect on the morning of October 12, sought approval from the girl’s matron saying that girl’s parents who are in Gelegphu are getting a divorce. The suspect said he was asked to bring the girl to Tsirang to meet her father. He also claimed that the he is a close friend of the girl’s father.

The matron found out about the incident from the girl after she enquired upon returning to the school on the same day. The matron then informed the principal and the case was reported to the police.

So far, the Dagana police recorded some six alleged rape cases this year.
