Sales from the five major hydropower projects reached Nu 3.4bn as of May this year. According to a report by the Royal Monitory Authority, the sales are an increase of over Nu 200 M from the same time, last year. The projects are Basochhu, Dagachhu, Chhukha, Kurichhu, and Tala hydropower plants.

Of the total sales of Nu 3.41bn, Nu 1.64bn is from export to India. The rest of the Nu 1.76bn was generated from domestic consumption. This is the highest sale recorded for the first five months since 2015.

Dagachhu Hydropower Corporation Limited, which exports all its production, saw a sale of Nu 220 M from the 68.5 M units of electricity it produced from January to May this year.

The 336 megawatts Chhukha Hydropower Plant produced a whopping 473 M units of electricity, which generated sales close to Nu 870 M and Nu 400 M in exports and domestic consumption respectively.

The Tala Hydropower Plant (THP), which paid of all its debts towards the end of last year, also returned massive figures. The THP recorded Nu 536 M in exports and Nu 1.12bn in domestic sales. The THP has an installed capacity of 1020 megawatts.

Basochhu hydropower plant, which only caters to domestic needs, recorded Nu 84 M in sales while Kurichhu Hydropower Plant in Monggar totalled Nu 171 M in domestic sales and just Nu 19 M in exports.

With sales peaking in July, August and September months, and if the sales trend keeps rising, the hydropower projects are in for a record sales come autumn.
