The main border gate in Phuentsholing remained closed today following a 24-hour strike in the Indian state of West Bengal.

The strike was called by joint action committee against the inclusion of additional lands to the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration.

According to one of the local Indian newspapers, 18 organisations are opposing Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha’s demand for inclusion of additional 296 localities from the plains.

The movement of vehicles through the gate was restricted from 6 this morning and will last until tomorrow morning.

Meanwhile, the entry and exit gates for people are open. The border gate in Samtse also remained closed from 6 this morning. The movement of private vehicles and passenger buses along the highway has also been restricted.
