A team of fresh graduates from College of Science and Technology (CST) in Phuentshogling is in process of developing a Smart Switch System.

Once complete, the Smart Switch System will be able to turn on and off the electrical switches of any electric appliances using a mobile application.

These days, Pema Singye- the founder and his two colleagues are busy working on the project.

They have been developing the Smart Switch System since September last year.

“We have named it smart because with this system in place, using internet from a mobile phone, we will be able to control the switches of homes and offices from anywhere,” said Pema.

Smart Switch System will require a mobile application to function. The group has also developed an app called my innoHome for the System. Currently, the team is working on switches of lights only. Over 70 per cent of the works has been complete so far.

“We have only focused on lights as of now. But we are planning to make it possible for other electrical appliances like geyser and heaters as well. We can do that by having control over the main switches in homes and offices,” adds Pema.

The idea was also recognized and bagged second position at the Bhutan held last year.

Once complete, the smart device will replace the existing manual electrical switches and minimise power consumption.

The system is also expected to prevent disasters.

Based in Thimphu TechPark, the team is supported by the Department of Information Technology and Telecom under information and communications ministry and the labour ministry.

The team is hopeful of completing the project within three months.
