Police in Thimphu arrested two suspects in connection to the Thimphu court burglary which took place on the night of January 2. The couple, 34 and 25, were arrested for breaking into the court and robbing Nu. 5,75000.

Police said miscreants have broken into the room by pulling the door from outside. According to the statement of the court’s accountant, he was informed about the incident by the office assistant. The office assistant was informed by the court’s sweeper after she found the filing cabinet broken and some cash scattered on the floor.

The accountant reported the matter to the police a day after the miscreant broke in. The miscreants took away Nu. 575,000 surety bail gathered from the litigants over the week and court’s miscellaneous funds. The money was kept in a steel safe in the accounts office.

The incident took place when the night guard was out of Thimphu after he had fallen sick for a long time. In his absence, the suspect- his sister was made to guard the court.
