In an effort to maintain cleanliness along the Thimphu–Phuentshogling highway, the Gaeddu College of Business Studies (GCBS) adopted ten kilometres of road between Gaeddu Chhu and Jumja yesterday.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Dzongkhag and the college coinciding with the tenth foundation of the college.

“Every month, we will be carrying out clean-up campaign. We also want to instil civic sense among the people who are travelling along the highway and those residing along it,” Sonam Choiden, the President of GCBS, said.

“We acknowledge the initiative of the college to adopt some stretch of the highway. I feel that it’s everyone’s responsibility to maintain the cleanliness,” Minjur Dorji,  the Chhukha Dzongda, said.

The Dzongkhag Environment Section is happy with the initiative. They say it will encourage other institutions and agencies too.

Meanwhile, the continuous cleaning campaigns and awareness programs have helped to reduce the wastes along the highway.
