The State Trading Corporation of Bhutan Limited (STCBL) donated blankets, mattresses and school dresses worth nearly Nu 0.3m to Chimuna Primary School under Logchina Gewog in Chhukha on Sunday.

The donation was given as part of the event to mark STCBL’s 50 years of establishment. It was also the part of corporate social responsibility which commenced on Sunday.

Chimuna School received 85 mattresses and blankets, and 134 school uniforms.

Pupils are thrilled to have received school wears and other donations. “We are extremely thankful to STCBL for giving us school uniform and other accessories. We can on sleep on new mattresses,” said one of the students, Tshering Jurmey.

One of the teachers, Karma Tenzin said, most students had been sleeping on the cemented floor and “new mattresses from STCBL will really help them sleep comfortably” and added “most students come from struggling families so buying mattresses was beyond their means.”

The country’s car trading giant also plans to build toilets and bathrooms for the school this year.

The school has 127 students. During summer, when monsoon wreaks havoc on feeder road that is connected to the school, students have to walk six hours to school from a road point in Logchina.
