With growing social problems in the country, private legal consultancy firms are doing brisk business. There are three firms in the capital. They earn about Nu. 3,000 to Nu. 4,000 almost every day. Some of the clients come from as far as eastern Bhutan to avail themselves of the services.

The firms render their services in writing legal documents and various agreement letters. For every document they charge about Nu. 150 a page.

However, the charges sometimes go up to Nu. 600 depending on the severity of the case. Some firms also take security deposit of Nu. 5,000. The amount is returned if the client looses the case.

Most of the existing legal consultancy houses carry trade license and also has an approval from the judiciary.  However, the fees are decided by the owners themselves.

Some of the consultancy firms said the charges are reasonable.

Some of the clients said they are happy to get the services, which otherwise would take them lot of time finding someone who could write legal documents for them. They also said that there are not many people who are well-versed in legal writing.

According to the consultancy firms, majority of their cases they deal with are matrimonial, land transaction and real estate businesses. The firms are owned by former Drangpons and Chimmis.
