Over the weekend, Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay visited Naro Gewog in Thimphu and met with the people there.

During the meeting, locals shared their concerns about the slow progress of the road construction which began some seven years ago. They also told the Prime Minister that the construction works have disrupted their pony trails.

Lyonchhen explained to the villagers that there had been some setbacks which delayed the construction but cheered them up by saying the government is trying to finish the work by mid of next year.

“We had earlier planned to clear the road by cutting through a cliff, but we could not get the environmental clearance which stalled the work for a bit. So we had to start clearing the road around it. Anyways the works are now going on well and we are trying to make sure that it gets completed by the same time next year.”

Prime Minister also informed the gathering that he is monitoring the work’s progress and talked with the site engineers while on the way. Apart from that, farmers told the Prime Minister that their cattle have fallen prey to leopards and tigers and need of lighting up their homes with grid electricity. Just now, they use solar power.
