More than one hundred students from different schools across the country attended the first Dharma camp at the Institute for Science of Mind in Simtokha, Thimphu. The camp which started from July 8 ended yesterday.

The camp was one of a kind to help students understand human values through religious messages.

“I would say that the dharma camp is very unique unlike other scout camps, it is all about religious and spiritual teachings,” said one of the participants from Shari Higher Secondary School, Deki Wangmo. “After coming here we have learnt the importance of Buddhist studies, how to change our minds and the do’s and don’ts.”

Likewise other participants shared that the camp was helpful.

“We received various teachings and blessing which helped us bring changes in our lives,” said Tandin Dorji of Kelki HSS. “I think if more youths take part in such camps, it will help us know more about Buddhist teachings,” added Tandin.

The Dharma camp saw almost 15 guest speakers from different organisations including the Central Monastic Body’s four lopens to talk about various youth related issues.

“We also had senior level officials who interacted with them to convey different messages. For instance BNCA is one of them, Police and Thrompon was also there as this are the organizations who deals with our youth,” said the Chief Executive Officer of  Institute for Science of Mind, Thinley Thogmed.

Zhung Dratshang’s Laytshog Lopen Sangay Dorji awarded certificates to the participants yesterday. The two week-long camp was supported and funded by the Dratshang Lhentshog.
