The recently blacktopped gewog connectivity (GC) road in Yangnyer Gewog in Trashigang has brought smiles to the villagers’ face.

For the past 30 years, over 3,000 residents in the gewog have been experiencing uneasy ride traveling on rough and uneven GC road. The condition became worse during monsoon season.

But now, villagers will no longer have to go through the same situation. The blacktopped road certainly gives them joy to plan more journeys.

“Before, to reach Trashigang, the travel time was two and half hours. But now, we reach there within 30 to 45 minutes,” said one of the villagers, Nima, adding that the vehicle maintenance expenses have also reduced.

Another villager, Jigme said, “It’s a double benefits for us. Our cars hardly get damaged and we reach to our destination within nick of time.”

With improved road, the gewog officials are expecting that it will bring multiple socio-economic benefits to the village.

“Blacktopped road has given hope to farmers to uplift their livelihoods by getting engaged in agricultural activities since they have started to cultivate more crops this time than before,” said the Mangmi of Yangnyer Gewog, Tshewang Gyeltshen.

The blacktopping works of 18 kilometre long GC road began in April last year and completed two months ago. The inaugural ceremony was held yesterday. The Royal Government spent over Nu 4.7 M for the works.
