Following reports of robberies taking place across the borders, Police in Phuentshogling advises people to be alert while travelling in the area.

Hundreds of people enter and exit the border towns. Some even stay in the hotels there.

Khamsang Wangdi from Gomdar Gewog in Samdrup Jongkhar is one such victim. With the help of Police, he got back Nu 200,000 last week which was robbed from him across the borders.

“I went across the border to repair my vehicle in December last year. I then booked a room and stayed there. Four men came to my room and snatched my money. I reported the case to police. After 5 long months, I am happy to have got back the money. I had a tough time in the past 5 months. I am happy now.”

And Khamsang Wangdi is not alone. Police says there are many cases that go unreported. In the past five months alone, Phuentshogling police helped 10 similar cases that took place across the borders.

“While travelling across the borders, people are not concerned about their security. Since these places are not under our jurisdiction, if we do not have close ties with stakeholders across the border, it is difficult to get back the lost properties. Though we work together with the police there, sometimes, things go out of our hand,” shared Wangchuk La, Phuentshogling’s Superintendent of Police.

According to the police, there are also cases of people falling victims to black marketing, motor vehicle theft and vehicle accidents among others, that happen across the border.
