The Rotary Club in Thimphu donated six haemodialysis machines to the Health Ministry on Saturday.
Health officials say the ministry is now in a comfortable position to provide adequate treatment to the increasing number of kidney patients.
The haemodialysis machines will be utilised from the mid of next year when the 24-bedded dialysis centre in Thimphu becomes operational.
The Health Secretary, Dr. Ugen Dophu said including the six donated machines, there are some 16 dialysis machines at the JDWNRH which would sufficiently treat kidney patients.
Currently, there are 151 kidney patients in the country. Of that, 109 are being treated at the capital’s National Referral hospital.
“A kidney patient has to undergo dialysis treatment for thrice a week. Earlier this was not possible due to limited machines. Now, this will be doable,” said the Health Secretary, Dr. Ugen Dophu.
The Rotary Club is a Civil Society Organization, established in April, 2012.
It lends a helping hand in fulfilling the government’s endeavour in areas of Agriculture, Health and Education.
