Agriculture Minister Yeshey Dorji said the egg production in the country has been increasing in the last four years. This has enabled the country to export 800 trays of eggs to India last week.

The minister said an egg fetched Nu 8 compared to local egg in Kolkata which cost Nu 3. He said the first trial marketing was successful.

“For instance, in 2012, the country produced 47 M eggs followed by 63 M, 58 M and 69 M last year. The figure shows the quantity of production is increasing. And we opted for India for we see a better market there,”

“There are more people who are willing to pay for Bhutanese eggs which costs more than double the price of their regular eggs,” said the minister.
