governments-response-on-mines-and-minerals-management-act-disappoints-national-councilThe National Council is disappointed with the government’s response on the Revision of Mines and Minerals Management Act, 1995.

The government had said they could not submit the revisions given the budget and time constraints.

NC had asked the National Assembly to revise the Act in the last summer session.

Members of the National Council said the study of the act would not require a vast amount of money.

A few members also said there must be reasons, other than the two mentioned. They said the given reasons do not suffice.

The government had responded saying the study of the act had to be carried out within the 2016-17 budget of the ministry.

They said the activity was prioritised only after the current budget was passed.

The government also said they could not secure from the World Bank.

It had taken the World Bank three months to respond.

They said they are exploring funding from the government since they need to finance adequate stakeholders, workshops, and advocacy among others.

The Upper House decided they will question the economic affairs minister during the Question Hour session.
