her-majesty-gyalyum-graces-royal-kathina-ceremony Her Majesty Gyalyum Sangay Choden Wangchuck graced the Royal Kathina Ceremony at Pangrizampa College of Astrology in Thimphu on October 30.

The ceremony is an age-old Thai tradition observed in temples to provide people the opportunity to gain merit by offering robes and other essential items to monks who have completed the three-month rain retreat.her-majesty-gyalyum-graces-royal-kathina-ceremony

It was led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, Busaya Mathelin.

The ceremony began with the lighting of butter lamps and prayers for the late king of Thailand.

The Permanent Secretary then offered the Royal Kathina robes to the Principal of Pangrizampa College.

Along with the robe, she also handed over bags, medicine, clothes, blankets, and flash lights. She also donated about Nu 1.4 M to the college.

The first Royal Kathina ceremony was celebrated in Dechen Phodrang Monastic School on 2011.
