chhukha-damchu-bypass-to-complete-before-deadlineProject DANTAK assured Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay that the Chhukha – Damchu bypass will open to traffic six months before its deadline of December 2017. The Prime Minister, en-route to Samtse, visited the stretch, yesterday.

Lyonchhen walked a part of the 29.2 kilometer stretch to oversee the progress.

“I wanted to personally see the problems the project is facing and if they need any assistance from the government,” said the Prime Minister.

The bypass was supposed to be ready by March, this year. But, formation-cutting through a kilometer and a half of a rocky cliff near Chhukha delayed the timely completion.

Project DANTAK said, although a daunting task, they are targeting to complete the work by the next five months.

“We have been negotiating this area for the last one and a half year where we achieved connectivity between the two sectors in June. After that, we had a heavy monsoon. But, we did not let that hamper our work…” Officer Commandant of Project DANTAK, Ankur Mahajan.

It was also reported that works to built three bridges along the bypass are on track with one of the bridges complete.

While on the way, Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay also met and interacted with the students and faculty of Gaeddu College of Business Studies.
