newsamtsehospitalThe new Samtse Hospital will open next month. The Health Ministry plans to handover the completed 40-bedded structure to the hospital administration by the end of this month.

The construction of Nu 226 M hospital is at least one and a half years behind schedule. It was supposed to be complete by late 2014.

With the new hospital, healthcare, especially the specialized services, are expected to get better and referrals for people easier and cheaper.

The hospital administration had planned to open the new hospital in phases, starting with outpatients and wards end of this month.

They said the operation theatre would likely take some time as it would require external expertise. The new hospital is the Government of India funded project.

At present, healthcare services are given from the worn-out facilities which have already exceeded its lifespan. The old hospital was built in 1968 and providing services under such condition have increasingly come under strain.

The delay in the completion of the new hospital has also put pressure on key facilities.

The construction of new hospital began in 2012. After the delay in the completion, the Health Ministry terminated the works in April, this year.

The ministry is carrying out the work since May.
