More women local leaders elected in Samdrup Jongkhar

more-women-local-leaders-elected-in-samdrup-jongkharThe number of women local leaders in Samdrup Jongkhar has increased with six elected during the recent local government elections. Most of them have been elected for the post of Tshogpa.

Twenty one women contested in second phase of local government elections in Samdrup Jongkhar.

The lone woman candidate for the post of gup failed to secure enough vote.

Five other candidates contested for the post of Mangmi of which four failed to get elected.

Pema form Gomdar Gewog secured the highest votes to be elected.

It was a tie for another woman candidate, Panjika Gurung from Samrang Gewog.

Of the 15 women contestants for the post of Tshogpas, five were elected.
