Overall inflation decreases The overall inflation rate in the country has decreased by 0.7 percent in the last one year. But the price of food items, both domestic and imported, has increased by around 4 percent, as per the consumer price index published by the National Statistical Bureau.

The price of local food items has increased by 6.09 percent, while the price of imported food items saw an increase by 2.44 percent only, as of July this year.Overall inflation decreases-

However the percentage of inflation for non-food items decreased by slightly 2 percent compared to the previous year.

National Statistics Bureau officials said the increase in price of locally produced goods and services have contributed more to the overall inflation this time.

“The main reason for an increase in the inflation cost of productions and demand,” said National Statistics Bureau’s Statistical Officer, Penjor Gyeltshen.

Bhutan’s current inflation rate is 2.87 percent.

According to international financial institutions, Bhutan’s consumer inflation has favourably slowed down at a rapid pace. But it is expected to reach 5 percent in the future.

Bhutan imports 70 percent of commodities from India.
