DoR completes blacktopping 15 GC roadsBlacktopping of 15 gewog-connectivity roads has been completed. Department of Roads (DoR) under works and human settlement ministry has to blacktop 114 gewog-connectivity roads by the end of 11th plan.

They started blacktopping the roads in December 2014.

Department of Roads’ Director, Karma Galay said 50 percent of the work will be completed by June, next year.

He said works in other gewogs are already underway.

The department has been able to secure funds for 91 gewogs.

“For remaining 22 gewogs, we are exploring various possibilities,” said Karma Galay.

They have put up proposals to the United Nations’ Least Developed Countries Fund and Green Climate Fund.

The director also said they encountered several challenges in terms of standards and quality while carrying out the works.

“We found out they were not built to the required specification. Some are on steep gradient and some narrow in width. Most of the gewog roads do not have drainage facilities.”
