The Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay, during Meet the Press session today, said the government has already identified two higher secondary schools to be upgraded to colleges, this year. Establishing three colleges in the East was one of the promises of the government during 2013 elections campaign.

“Right now, we cannot say which schools have been identified to be upgraded,” the Prime Minister said. Lyonchhen said the Royal University of Bhutan and the Ministry of Education are still researching to finalize the location. “They need to look into it to see whether it is feasible or not.”

The government had already identified Yonphula as one of the locations.

At the moment, there are two colleges in the East; Sherubtse in Kanglung and Jigme Namgyel Engineering College in Dewathang.
