Penden Cement Authority Limited allegedly terminated 42 workers, today. The workers say they were laid off without a prior notice, this morning.

These 42 workers were categorized as ‘National Work Force’ under the Company’s job profile which means their contract is renewed every after three months.

The company supposedly reached a decision to let the workers go after an internal meeting between the department heads and Managing Director, yesterday.

According to a source, the company’s civil department, under which the 42 workers worked, had plans to lay them off.

However, the PCAL officials say they have not finalized the lay-off. The official said they are still assessing whether to renew the workers’ contract considering the rough time the Company is going through.
While PCAL say the workers contract expired in September, the workers say it is still valid until the end of this year.

There are about 300 National Work Force labourers with the company whose daily wages go up to Nu 3,500 a month.
