PM assures immediate investigationThe Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay assured the people of Trongsa that immediate investigation will be carried out to determine the cause of cracks in and around the town. The cracks started appearing from last month.

Lyonchhen is currently in Trongsa to see the degree of damages following the rain last month and also to meet with the people of Trongsa.

The Prime Minister and officials from the Department of Geology and Mines visited the areas from where damages were reported.PM assures immediate investigation--

While visiting the Trongsa-Bumthang highway, where widening works are currently underway, Lyonchhoen asked the concerned authorities to take extra care in controlling the run-off water and maintain proper drainage system to avoid landslides.

During the meeting with the people of Nubi Gewog, some of the residents shared their concerns over such disasters.

“One of the reasons for the recent slide, above the town, is bursting of water pipes. I think proper water supply has to be out in place,” said a resident, Dawa Norbu.

Lyonchhen said different team of engineers will be sent to investigate the cause of the slides and come up with mitigation measures.

“There were reports of danger even in the past. The disaster occurred as said. We knew the danger before but didn’t do anything to mitigate. We didn’t bother about the danger but now we will do thorough investigation and after that we will not just leave it but we will surely mitigate in a proper manner.”

Following the rainfall last month, numerous cracks and slides were reported in Trongsa. Four houses and seven acres of agricultural land were also damaged.
