His Majesty celebrates Chunyipai Losar in LhuentseHis Majesty the King celebrated the traditional day of offering or the Chunyipai Losar with the people of Lhuentse yesterday.

Before leaving to Autsho from Lhuentse, His Majesty visited Lhuentse Dzong and offered butter lamps and prayers.

In Autsho, over a thousand people from eight gewogs under Lhuentse District and also from some parts of Monggar District gathered in Autsho Middle Secondary School football ground to celebrate the day.

His Majesty hosted a Tokha for the people.

His Majesty also gifted a Jersey cow and a calf, farming tools, mobile phones, television sets and rice cookers to the farmers through lucky draw.

Many people BBS spoke to said it was one of the most joyous Chunyipai Losar celebrations for them.

In the East, the first day of the 12th Bhutanese month is celebrated as a new year. It is said that on this day representatives from all regions of Bhutan offered Buelwa or offerings to Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal to express their love and devotion. Hence the day has been observed as Buelwa Phuewai Nyim or the traditional day of offering.

His Majesty also visited Dungkhar Nagtshang to offer butter lamps and prayers. Our reporter, Pema Namgay, says that from Autsho, all the way till Dungkhar, people waited in groups, along the highway, to receive and offer Tshogchang to His Majesty the King.

Meanwhile, People across the country celebrated Chunyipai Losar. Here in the capital, some of the public spaces like children’s park and Changlingmithang archery ground were filled with people.
