The most inauspicious day on the Bhutanese calendar, known as Ngyenpa Guzom or The Meeting of Nine Evils falls today, corresponding to the seventh day of the 11th month of the Bhutanese calendar.
While Nyenpa Guzom or The Meeting of Nine Evils is no more a national holiday, but some people still refrain from doing important work, given the belief that nothing good can be achieved on this day.
In eastern Bhutan, Nyenpa Guzom is observed as a festive occasion to eat, drink and play outdoor games like archery, dego and khuru. Even in the capital, people were found playing Khuru. Nyenpa Guzom went off the national holiday list in 2007 together with Blessed rainy day but Blessed rainy day was reinstated in 2009.
