Border gate opens following a riot near Samtse(Update): Two days after the strike was called in Chamurchi, a border area close to Samtse town, following a death of an Indian domestic help, the border gates opened yesterday.

The stranded vehicles started moving yesterday morning following talks between two sides agreeing to intensify the security.

The vehicles are being escorted in a convoy by the Indian Police till Chamurchi, an Indian town, which is four kilometres from Samtse.

The movement of vehicles are timed at 7 in the morning, 12 noon in the afternoon and at 4 in the evening.

However, movement of people– Bhutanese going to Chamurchi and Check Post towns and those coming into Bhutan- mostly the Indian day workers -have been restricted by both sides. It is expected to remain so until the situation becomes completely normal.
