NC-SecondHandCarsThe government is yet to respond to the National Council on the resolution the Upper House had submitted to observe ban on import of second-hand cars.
The Members of the National Council raised the issue on Friday.

NC’s Deputy Chairperson, Tshering Dorji said lifting ban on import of second-hand cars is against the provision of Sales Tax, Customs and Excise Act 2000, and Rules and Procedures for Imports from the Third Countries 2001.

He also said lifting of ban is against the long-standing policy of maintaining pristine environment. “The country will become the dumping ground for such products.”

The National Council had recommended placing a greater emphasis on promoting efficient, affordable and reliable transport.
