The National Council discussed the land compensation rate, today. Some members said the compensation rate has to be revised.
Chhukha’s NC MP Pema Tenzin said the compensation rate for land measuring less than 10 decimal is low. “Moreover, since 10 decimal land cannot be registered, land compensation or replacement has not been possible.”
MP Pema Tenzin also said the Land Act 2007 clearly states the Property Assessment and Valuation Agency shall revise the compensation rate after every three years.
The rate was last revised in 2009.
A few of them said some land owners have not received compensation even after 20 years since the government acquired their land.

Gasa’s NC MP, Sangay Khandu said in case of delayed compensation, it is important to pay the land owners based on the current market price. He said lot of people would be at the losing end, if the delayed compensation is paid today based on the rate when the land was acquired.
Dagana’s NC MP raised the issue of registration of land that are less than ten decimal. He said, in Dagana, there are infrastructures built on 2.75 decimal also.
The issues will be discussed with the National Land Commission Secretariat and Department of National Properties.
