The Monggar Police handed over the chorten vandalism cases to the Office of the Attorney General (OAG). The cases involve 46 people, who were arrested for chorten vandalism, in the eastern dzongkhags.
This is the highest number of people arrested in connection with chorten vandalism. The police say they are directly or indirectly involved in the crime.
The accused desecrated about 48 chortens, according to the police.
The Police also say they have recovered many valuable antiques like cat’s eye, old statues, corals, and jewellery made of elephant tusk and others.
The case is being reviewed by the Office of the Attorney General.
It will soon be forwarded to the Monggar Court.
