HouseDismentaling-Trongsa-The Trongsa Dzongkhag administration will soon forward the case involving 20 households of Draagteng Gewog to the court for constructing houses within 50 feet from the middle of the high way. But the people are planning to put up a petition.

The houses at Draagteng Gewog in Trongsa are located within 50 feet from the middle of the Trongsa-Zhemgang highway. And this contravenes the Road act.

The issue was extensively deliberated during the recent Dzongkhag Tshogdu.

According to Galay Chophel, who is Draagteng Gewog Gup, if the government could reduce to 30 feet and take the land, there won’t be any problem.

He says, “Till now as per the land act, the rights lie with the owner, but on the other hand, the road act does not allow. So, if the distance could be 20-30 feet, it would benefit both the public and the government.”

However, the Langthil Mangmi, Rinzin Wangchuk said giving land substitute would further create problem.

The chief engineer from the department of roads in Trongsa, Tougay Choedup, said the department did the survey in 2006 and it was quite expensive to compensate all land and property.

At the moment, all locals can do now is wait for the court case.
