Indian Ambassador to Bhutan-Gautam Bambawale-Chhukha hydropower project Visit. As the Indian Ambassador to Bhutan, Gautam Bambawale, visited Chhukha Hydropower Project yesterday, he reassured the Indian government’s continued support to Bhutan.

Ambassador Gautam Bambawale said India will assist and help Bhutan in whatever ways it can in its capacity, while the priorities for assistance have to be laid by the people of Bhutan.

This is his first visit since he took over the charge as the Indian Ambassador to Bhutan earlier this month.

Visiting the dam site and the power house of the project, Ambassador said he was impressed with the competence of the people who are managing the project.

He said Chhukha Hydro Power Project is one of the earliest projects jointly done by India and Bhutan, and thus, an abiding symbol of India-Bhutan partnership. Therefore, it was on the top of his places-to-visit list.

“I wanted to see the hydropower project in operation for so many years. And it is being managed extremely efficiently and that it’s operation is something that both people of India and Bhutan can be proud of,” says the Ambassador.

The Ambassador also visited the Chhukha Zangdopelri where he lit butter lamps and offered prayers.

Chhukha Hydropower Project is Bhutan’s first hydropower project. It was completed and inaugurated in 1988.
