India’s PM addresses joint session of Parliament

PM-Modi-Addresses-National AssemblyThe Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, addressed the joint session of Parliament, today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Bhutan on his first foreign visit after taking office.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his speech by describing himself fortunate to be able to address the Bhutanese Parliament. In his speech in Hindi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the relationship between India and Bhutan is historic. He said the new government is committed to foster the relationship even stronger.

Narendra Modi lauded Bhutan for the smooth transition from monarchy to democracy in a short span of time. Mr. Modi congratulated the Royal Family for securing development, protection of traditions and environment. He said Bhutan has established democracy among its people through awareness and strong democratic traditions.

Prime Minister said strength of democracy is important for the region and its people.


Prime Minister Modi said India is committed to good relations with its neighbours. He said that if India progresses, it will directly impact the development of its neighbours. He said stability and development in India will help neighbours like Bhutan.

Prime Minister Modi promised to help Bhutan in science and technology. Mr. Modi said India’s satellite technology can be used for Bhutan’s development and can bring the two countries together. Prime Minister also decided to form E-Library network for Bhutan.

Prime Minister said that India will increase its scholarships for Bhutanese students by two fold.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also proposed a sports-meet with all Indian Himalayan States and Bhutan. He said Sportsman spirit brings happiness. Prime Minister said Himalayans unites Bhutan and India. He said both the courtiers should be proud of the Himalayas.

Prime Minister said Himalayas are Bhutan and India’s common heritage and sharing culture, heritage and traditions will be beneficial for youth.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi left the country, today. The Indian Prime Minister was seen off by the Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, Cabinet Ministers and other senior officials from Bhutan, India and International Organisations in Bhutan.
