Early child care centre-SerzhongAn early child care centre has been established by the UNICEF at Barshong village under Serzhong Gewog in Sarpang. People of the Gewog are happy as they will not have to worry about their young ones when they go to work in the fields.

Phub Lhamo, a house wife, is now hoping to help her husband in the field. “I can go anywhere I want. I can do household chores after I reach my child here,” she says.

Some parents said apart from learning at the centre, it will be easy for their children to get admitted in government schools in the next academic session.

“They will begin to learn out here and when they join school it will be easy for them. So I think it will benefit a lot,” says Sangay Wangchuk, a parent.

However, the early child care centre is housed in the ORCH centre at the moment. The parents said it will be good to have a separate place for the centre. The Instructor, Dechen Lhaden, said it is risky as medicines are kept in the ORCH.

The early child care centre has 13 children, between three and five years.
