14th International Society of Ethnobiology Congress- Bumthang. More than 400 participants from 56 countries are taking part in the 14th International Society of Ethnobiology Congress in Bumthang. The theme this year is regenerating bio-cultural ecosystem resilience and transmission of traditional knowledge.

Speaking at the inaugural, Her Royal Highness Princess Chimi Yangzom Wangchuck, said the international society of ethnobiology continues to make positive impact across the globe. “It is wonderful that the Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environment has successfully partnered and collaborated the society to convene the important congress in Bhutan.14th International Society of Ethnobiology Congress- Bumthang

“There is a wonderful momentum and reason for much hope to exchange ideas and share experiences and learn from each other. Today more than ever we need to address the challenges facing us as individual, as nation and as a citizen of one planet,” said Her Royal Highness.

Her Royal Highness also launched a book titled “an ode to Bhutan’s biodiversity” yesterday.

The participants attended the opening ceremony in their respective traditional attires and performed traditional songs and dances, says our reporter, Komal Kharka.

The congress is held every two years. The International Society of Ethnobiology is a global, collaborative network of individuals and organisations working to preserve vital links between human societies and the natural world.

During the week-long event the participants will be completely engaged in field trips, conferences, presentations and meet local communities to learn from.
