pigThe unusual friendship that has blossomed between a pig and a bull has amazed the Namla community in Kanglung under Trashigang.  Dorji, the pig and a bull named Gadhar had struck up a friendship ever since they were just a piglet and a calf.

Dorji and Gadhar are together every single day, eating from the same container and sleeping side by side.

Our Kanglung Correspondent, Pema Namgay says, when the bull is tethered, the pig is seen beside the bull, every time, as if to assure that everything would be fine. When the owner lets the bull graze, the pig follows. The two can be seen together walking along the highway, grazing, resting and even playing.

“I once saw the pig dragging a branch of leaves with its mouth to give it to the bull. The bull was tethered. The act made me cry,” said a resident of Namla, Yeshey Peldon.

The Caretaker, Dechen Dorji, said the bull was brought from Samtse after its mother had died. The piglet was brought to test the feed their owner was making. “They fight a little when we feed in small container. But if we feed them in larger container, they share the food without any fight.”

Many people say it is their Karmic action in their previous lives that brought them together. Their friendship has struck a chord with the people in the community.

The owner has decided to set Dorji and Gadhar on Tshethar as an appreciation of their strong attachment. Now Dorji and Gadhar can be in each other’s company as long as they live.
