Annual Crime Statistics for 2012-13Thimphu records the highest crime with 1,314 cases registered, states the Annual Crime Statistics for 2012-13. The report was launched at a press conference in Thimphu today.

Gasa Dzongkhag, on the other hand, records the lowest crime with just 11 cases.

The report also say the overall crime rate in the country has reduced by 6 percent or 296 cases.

The Chief of Police, Brigadier Kipchu Namgyel, said the crime rate in Thimphu has dropped by 40 percent.  “In 2009 it was 65 percent. This is a massive decrease…”

Wangdue Phodrang recorded the highest increase in crime by 86 cases last year. Various measures have been taken into account to tackle crime in all the Dzongkhags.

Brigadier Kipchu Namgyel said they have already established Community Police Centre at Nobding in Wangdue Phodrang.  They will also establish community centre at Bajothang and another at Lobesa. “We are establishing new police station in Zhewakha between the Punatsangchhu I and II.”

The Royal Bhutan Police has plans to establish a new Police Division in Bumthang as well.

Trashigang also saw a new Police community centre being established in Kanglung.
