Bilateral trade agreement prompted lifting of ban, questions MPThe Economic Affairs Minister, Norbu Wangchuk, said the ban on alcohol and furniture was not lifted because of the existing bilateral trade agreement with India as questioned by a Member of Parliament.

Lyonpo said the decision to lift the ban was based on the recommendations from the Multi-Sectoral Task Force.

The Nganglam MP, Choida Jamtsho, during the Question Hour in the National Assembly, today, had asked if the government had lifted the ban solely due to existing bilateral trade agreement with India.

The Minister was also questioned if the government would honour multilateral trade agreements once the government decides to join Wrold Trade Organization (WTO).

Lyonpo Norbu Wangchuk said it is too early to discuss on that as the government stand undecided on WTO. He added the discussion will be put up in the Parliament if the government ever decides to join WTO.
