Encroachment issue discussed during Question HourThe people of Soe, Naro and Lingzhi had submitted concern regarding the numerous encroachments for the collection of Cordyceps from across the border. On their behalf, the North Thimphu MP, Kinga Tshering, asked the Home Minister, Damchoe Dorji, on how the government is looking at to address the issue.

Lyonpo Damchoe Dorji said the Cordyceps areas are monitored by the Forestry officials with support from the Royal Bhutan Army. He agreed that due to rugged terrain and shortage of manpower minor incidences are being reported along the border. He said they have asked the local leaders and communities assist the forest officials to keep an eye.

He also said the restrictions on the northern neighbors have helped check the encroachment.

Increase in number of forestry officials during the Cordyceps season would also help, said the Minister.
