Bhutan has achieved remarkable progress: ADB’s President

President-ADB-Takehiko NakaoThe President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Takehiko Nakao, said Bhutan has been able to achieve remarkable progress under the ADB assistance. The President said ADB will continue to work for the betterment of Bhutan’s socio-economic development. Bhutan became the member of the Asian Development Bank in 1982.

“…This country has made a remarkable progress in terms of high growth, high inclusiveness development. And also in poverty reduction, excess to safe drinking water and sanitation,” said Takehiko Nakao.

The Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay, said Bhutan benefitted by being a member of ADB. He said Bhutan has received 27 loans, 16 grants amounting to US$ 450 million and another US$ 52 million in the form of technical assistance grant that have helped Bhutan’s development.PM+ADB President Inaugurates the ADB Bhutan Resident Mission

Lyonchhen added Bhutan has a long way to go and must ensure that the fundamental of the country’s economy is corrected and secured. He said the opening of the resident mission in Bhutan will further help achieve and realised the objectives of the government and the Asian Development Bank.
