The National Council questioned the Finance Minister, Namgay Dorji, on the government’s strategies to better manage the country’s debt during the question hour session yesterday.

The NC Representative of Gasa, Sangay Khandu, referring to the Royal Monetary Authority’s report 2013 said the country’s debt stands at Nu.105 billion. The RMA report also says Nu. 37 billion is the country’s convertible currency debt and constitutes 36 percent of the total debt.

Lyonpo Namgay Dorji said there is no need to worry and that the government’s priority is to put together grants to finance development activities.
