ECB celebrates its eighth anniversary

 ECB-8thAnniversaryIt was on this day in 2006, the Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) was established. As ECB observed its eighth anniversary, the Chief Election Commissioner, Dasho Kunzang Wangdi, said it is a time to reflect the achievements and redirect the focus towards building robust electoral system.

Since its inception, the Election Commission of Bhutan has conducted two parliamentary and one local government elections, including Thromde Elections.HRHPrincessSonam Dechan Wangchuck+ ECB 8thAnniversary-BookLuanch

Dasho Kunzang Wangdi said ECB looks forward to work on electoral standards those that require further reinforcing and streamlining towards building an electoral system.  “We are hopeful that unlike the first parliament, the second parliament would uphold the provisions of the Constitution faithfully and respectfully and rely on authoritative interpretation and lawful application of the same. He said they hope that with LG Act 2009 amended; it will address all the issues that are in conflict with the provisions in the Constitution. The ECB and Delimitation will then carry out comprehensive delimitation of both Parliamentary and LG Demkhongs and issue PVC biometric VIPC to all the voters.

Her Royal Highness Princess, Sonam Dechan Wangchuck, who graced the occasion, released five books, including a Report on Learning from Experience Programme, carried out after second parliamentary election and Charter for Volunteers for Voter information and Education.
