MoIC opens Child Care Centre for staff- The Ministry of Information and Communications becomes the first ministry to open a Child Care Centre for the staff with children under the age of three.

The move comes after the ministry found out that most of the 20 working mothers in MoIC haven’t been able to afford professional child care centre due to their low income.

The center is expected to improve the productivity of the mothers and, at the same time, be able to provide quality care to their children, especially breastfeeding their children on time.

A cleaning lady at the ministry and single mother, Dawa Dema, will be among those benefitting from the centre.MoIC opens Child Care Centre for staff

She says there is no one to look after her three children. “I feel fortunate that I will be able to bring my younger children at my workplace and give better care to them.”

Dawa, along with her three colleagues, have volunteered to look after the children at the centre.

The MoIC Minister, DN Dhungyel said the centre, which has all the basic facilities like that of the professional day care centre, is expected to bring many changes in lives of working mother.

The Chairperson of the National Commission for Women and Children (NCWC), Dorji Choden said the centre is critical and important initiative.

The centre was established with funding support from NCWC. It was established at the cost of Nu. 250,000.
